Mickey DeLorenzo, director of interactive development at the ODM Group, developed a free app that accomplishes just that. “Today I Learned,” offers fun facts that can be read for quiet entertainment, or turned into a trivia game, which is fun for the whole family. A new, recently released version, offers more than 6,000 new factoids, and a special addition specifically about the Thanksgiving holiday. Additionally, “Today I Learned” does not require an Internet connection to access the content.

“Today I Learned” compiles most its content from real people posting on Reddit.com about what they learned that day. Also, the app curates factoids from other locations including books, personal experience, Snapple lids, etc.

Here’s an example:
“Today I learned… that you can locate the side of the car where your gas tank is located by looking at the arrow pointing in its direction on your gas gauge.”

“Today I learned…690 million pounds of turkey were consumed in the United States during Thanksgiving 2007. This equals the weight of 4.48 million humans of average weight (154 pounds); the population of Singapore.”
