Atomic Robotics

The ODM Group is a proud partner of the Philadelphia Atomic Robotics 4-H Club. The Atomic Robotics 4-H Club is an opportunity for students from any Philadelphia school to explore new technical areas and enjoy after school camaraderie. Started in 2011, the goal of the robotics club is to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related fields.
With some help from mentors in the field, teachers, and online resources, students engage in the production of a robot. This process does not end with the creation of a robot; it also succeeds in developing character by increasing self-confidence, improving communication skills, and improving leadership skills. Working with their peers and mentors, students gain valuable social and technical skills.
Professionalism and teamwork are lessons that are taught through experience. It is not just about building a robot, but about making new friends and trying out new ideas and finding new solutions to problems through hands-on trial and error.
On top of the practical experience team members gain the ability to apply for FIRST grants and college scholarships which were valued at over $14 million in 2011. Participating Philadelphia schools include Mastery Charter School, Masterman High School, and Central High School.
Over the 2011 summer the Philadelphia school system canceled most robotics programs. The volunteers from several teams refused to let the current fiscal situation stall the progress made, and worked with the school system and several schools in the area to establish a community team to supplement the loss of over 15 robotics programs across the district. These mentors are trying to ensure that any Philadelphia student who would like to continue or begin their participation in a robotics can. The ODM Group will be providing media outreach for Atomic Robotics over a six-week period leading up to the Atomic Robotics Competition in the beginning of March 2012 to generate buzz and sponsorship opportunities for the team.
