Rumors are circulating that Comcast, the largest cable TV and internet service provider in the United States, is working on a new streaming service for the iPad.
The new service, called AnyPlay, allows Comcast subscribers to view live television on their iPad. Users must be connected to their home network through a special Comcast router in order to watch live TV. AnyPlay is designed to complete with Time Warner, which has a streaming app of its own.
One main distinction between the two services is that Comcast AnyPlay will not work on standard Wi-Fi or 3G networks, so users must be in their home to access live TV.
While the details of the service have not been officially released, it will be interesting to see how Comcast will market AnyPlay to make customers want to stream to their iPad rather than simply watching it on the TV in their house.
