We talk a lot about the popularity of social networks, specifically among teenagers and young adults. However, Disney has created a booming social network geared specifically to children 8- 11-years-old.

Club Penguin, as it is called, has more than 150 million profiles and a hosts regular contests, online meetups, “concerts,” digital events, and an official newspaper called “The Club Penguin Times” which is read by more than 1.1 million kids.

Additionally, the site aims to help kids improve their typing, reading and writing, and learn important lessons in responsibility, like how to take care of pets or keep a job.

We have said this time and time again, social media is not a fad – it is how we communicate and that will only expand in the future. Club Penguin has captured a niche market and is successfully teaching children globally how to navigate social networks in a safe way.
