Technology giant IBM announced today that mind control for phones and computers may be sooner than you think.

IBM has just published its “5 in 5? forecast: a prediction about five innovations that will fundamentally change our world within the next five years. If true, this technology would take Siri a step further and let our thoughts control our phones, computers and other devices.

What IBM envisions is using a simple brain-machine interface (BMI) that can detect different kinds of brainwaves and tell a computer to respond a certain way.

Additionally, IBM scientists are working on ways to hook people’s brains to their computers, allowing for navigation by thought.

Other promising predictions include an much-welcomed end to junk mail, as spam advertising so sophisticated and tailored you won’t think it’s junk anymore, and the downfall of passwords in with the advent of voice and facial recognition.

Technology is evolving at unprecedented ways, and it certainly will be interesting to see if these predictions hold true.
