Yesterday, Good Morning America announced that they will be hosting Mark Zuckerberg to discuss the unveiling of a new “life saving feature” on Facebook. In the interview, which occurred earlier today, Zuckerberg revealed that the social network will be adding an organ donor section to profile pages. It will include a link that lets U.S. and U.K. users sign up to become organ donors, and those users who are already donors can display that information.
Zuckerberg contributes the idea to his friendship with Steve Jobs, the late Apple co-founder and CEO, and the liver transplant Jobs received before he died.
With over 100,000 people a year awaiting organ transplants, this new information could help hospitals and nonprofits find the much needed donors.
