President Obama made history yesterday, when he opined that same sex couples should be allowed to marry in an interview with ABC News. The President said the even though he previously thought civil unions would be sufficient his view has “evolved.”
ABC chose to break the news online, jumping the gun on their own interview. In doing so they recognized the importance of digital media as a breaking news source and the speed with which information spreads. By announcing the President’s opinion online, they were able to create a larger audience for the broadcast.
