In more ways than one, Usain Bolt’s Olympic success translated into the digital world. The Jamaican sprinter’s mobile game, Bolt!, accelerated to popularity after he anchored the record-setting 4×100 relay. It hit the 1 million user mark that day and continued to be downloaded at a rate of once per second.
Other athletes, such as the Cincinnati Bengal’s Chad Johnson and Real Madrid’s Christiano Ronaldo, have released mobile games under their brand to wide success, drawing fans to their social media pages.
Olympic athletes have a tendency to fall off the grid in the four years between Games, but with social media, they can stay relevant in pop culture.
